Volunteers Wanted

Sensory seating project

We are looking for volunteers and community groups to help build a sensory seating area in the grounds of the Sedbergh Centre during the summer months next to the children’s play area. The seats and planters have already been made and the first stage of the project will include building it with the second stage concentrating on planting a collection of sensory plants aimed to stimulate all the senses and attract the wildlife.

 Stage 1: Build sensory seating area
 Volunteers: Workplace volunteering
 Stage 2: Planting sensory plants
 Volunteers: Younger & older generations

Thank you to the Sir George Martin Trust for funding this project.

We have also lots of volunteering and work experience opportunities for all ages at our regular sessions where you can help out whilst gaining valuable skills. Call Arnie or Lucy on 01274 6789843 for more details.

Family Volunteers Day
Little Litter-pickers: Jacob Fletcher, Frankie Hill & Lucie Higgins with Volunteer Jill Mallinson pictured opposite.

Children from Hilltop C of E Primary School took some time out of their day to do a good deed at the centre last month for Family Volunteers Day when they managed to litter-pick 4 bags of rubbish from the grounds of the Sedbergh Centre! We would like to say a BIG thank you to everyone who took part!

Go Higher
Part of the SAY #iwill project

Last month we held a Higher Education Information Evening as part of the SAY #iwill project when members of the local community were invited to join representatives from the Sedbergh Centre, colleges and universities to learn about getting access to further education, apprenticeships and volunteering/work experience opportunities and myth-busting about student finance. Alicia Bruce, SAY #iwill Ambassador, talked about our project and how it is benefiting her.

We would like to thank everyone who came along and Go Higher – West Yorkshire for putting on this event.

"Volunteering for the Go Higher Event was really
beneficial as it gave me good insight on higher
education as a prospect 16-year old and the
opportunity to develop my public speaking"
- Alicia Bruce
