Refurbishments have continued over
the Christmas period and will do so over the next few weeks with plans for an
open day in the first quarter of this year. We are also excited to announce two
new groups starting this year: A fortnightly games afternoon and Mencap Carers’
sessions which you can read more about below.
Monday Games Afternoon! Everyone Welcome
Come along to the Sedbergh Centre on a Monday afternoon (every fortnight) to meet new people, have fun and enjoy friendly
competition. The group led by Community Health Champions Pauline Taylor and
Norma Peacock will provide refreshments and a lovely social atmosphere. For
more information please call 01274 321911.
Free Training for Carers
Mencap is holding free training
sessions for carers and will be presenting information on carers’ rights,
benefits and looking after yourself. If you are interested just come along on
the day or call Neil Elsom on 07984901500 or email neil.elsom@mencap.org.uk Please note: there are separate sessions for current
carers and new carers. Please see the calendar for details.
Christmas
Giving – Thank you
The
Sedbergh Youth & Community Centre was fortunate enough to receive some lovely
gifts from Provident Financial and Yorkshire Water in December. The over
fifties, carers, youth club members and toddlers were delighted with their
presents and would like to extend their thanks.
Don’t struggle
with your engery bills as the colder weather hits home
Energy bills can soar during the winter months and it can be an expensive
time. However, you may be eligible for a discount of £140 if your supplier is
part of the Warm Home Discount Scheme or if you are on certain benefits. Call
Colleen at the Sedbergh Centre on 01274 679843 or email sedberghcommunitycentre@yahoo.co.uk and she may be able to help
reduce your bill. Colleen is our Advice and Information Worker as part of the
See-SAW project, funded by the Big Lottery Fund and aims to provide the local community with
information, advice and guidance about benefits, job search and form filling as
well as sign-posting people to appropriate agencies and training organisations.
